Pedz ReviewZ: Pokémon Shield Isle of Armor

Written Review

Heeeeeeyyyyoooooooooo all. It’s time for another Pedz RewiewZ. This video is going to be about Pokémon Shields Isle of Amour DLC, this will be a short review.

I’m going to start by talking about the Isle of Amour itself. The island is basically a large wild area, all the areas here have the openness of the wild area, where you can freely roam each area catching Pokémon and hunting down other things. The island has a few habitats, which consist of grassland, wetlands, forest, caves and beaches, there’s also the sea itself you can ride about on.

The DLC also adds in a load of older Pokémon for you to catch, and there’s the new Pokémon that was shown in the initial reveal, Kubfu and its evolution. There are also Galarian versions of Slowpoke and Slowbro, and new Gigantamax forms for Venusaur, Blastoise and the Galar starters.

You head over to the Isle of armour and join a dojo and do several trials to see if you can get the “special Armour” the trials are fairly short and simple, and the length of the story itself is pretty short, the main draw is catching new poKEmon and finding Alola Diglett, which are hidden throughout the island. You get a reward for finding them at specific milestones.

There are over 200 Pokémon to catch on the island but many are from the main Galar island, when I started I had around 115 Pokémon entries in my pokédex straight away. It’s handy for those who didn’t get all 400 in the main game as they can catch some more in this area to increase their Pokedex entries… Well if the ones they are missing are the ones they need.

I’ll add that the Isle of Armour for me ran better than the wild area of Galar, it wasn’t as juddery and rarely did the framerate get worse, it happened only once or twice even when online I didn’t seem to have any issues.

Overall I think the DLC is a step in the right direction for an open-world Pokémon game, the gameplay is the same and tbh you wouldn’t expect that to change in DLC. In all honesty, I enjoyed my time with it, even if the main plot was short, the area is nice to explore and getting the collectables felt rewarding.

I’ll add that this was the right direction for the game series, in that DLC that expands the world is a better option than a 3rd game in the generation as it was previously. If you have Sword or Shield I’d recommend getting the DLC.
